Buffy the Vampire SlayerIf you’ve found yourself without a plan on this Labor Day Weekend, there’s a new way to keep yourself busy online.

Earlier this week, viewers of the old WB were given a free way to watch some of their now-cancelled shows. At TheWB.com, fans can access programs just like they would on any other network-sponsored site. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, Angel, Everwood, Roswell, One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls are amongst the selections offered.

Meanwhile, other shows that didn’t originate on the WB (but were produced by Warner Bros.) are also included on the site. That list is comprised of such titles as , The O.C., Veronica Mars, Babylon 5 and Firefly.

Although the number of episodes are currently limited, fresh hours will be posted weekly.

Mischa BartonAlthough she was killed off her last show, has apparently been invited to join another Joss Schwartz series: .

The O.C. native was asked to star as Georgina Sparks, a character who would bring Serena’s not-so-wholesome past to the forefront.

Although I was initially apprehensive upon hearing the news - I’d really like to see the program survive on its own merits - I quickly had a change of heart.  If stunt casting is what it takes to get the show some attention, then I’m all for it.

But wouldn’t ya know it - Barton apparently thinks she’s too good for the series.  Although she really hasn’t done anything noteworthy lately (unless you count her recent DUI and marijuana charges), her reps have advised her to pass.

You know what?  Screw Barton.  Let’s bring her ex-mommy, Melinda Clarke, into the fold.  Now that would make things a bit more interesting!

Kelly RutherfordKelly Rowan

Okay - it’s now time for another one of my random celebrity pairings.  Today, we have Gossip Girl’s (on the left) with The O.C.‘s (on the right).

In addition to looking alike, these ladies have several other similarities.

  • Both women are obviously named Kelly.
  • Both have the initials K.R.
  • Both actresses play(ed) rich mothers on a -produced show.  (Which completely threw me off because I once thought Kelly Rowan had shifted from CA to New York.)

The O.C. There was a lot of speculation about what would become of The O.C. once Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) was killed off. Looks like the show, which was given an abbreviated order for season four, will be wrapping up in late February. Fox announced Wednesday that The O.C. was canned, and the season finale will be the series finale. The last episode (ever!) of The O.C. will air February 22nd.

O.C. creator and executive producer Josh Schwartz said of the series, “This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close. Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top.” Since the show’s high ratings in the first season, subsequent seasons have not fared as well. Some speculate that the “real-life O.C.” portrayed on MTV’s Laguna Beach led to the series’ demise. This last season drew much smaller numbers, just 4.1 million, and faced off against heavyweights CSI and Grey’s Anatomy.

Prison Break ATTENTION TIVO USERS:  IT’S TIME TO START FIRING UP THOSE SEASON PASSES..

The official start of Fall may still be a month away,  but fall programming for the major networks begins tomorrow.  Okay—maybe only for one network.  Forced to deal with the upcoming Major League Baseball playoffs, FOX is hoping to whet our appetites now by teasing us with their lineup.  Once we’re properly addicted, the network will then regular interrupt our candy intake with sports coverage.

So come this Monday, August 21, we will see the return of last year’s hit, Prison Break.  When we last left the convicts, the boys had just made their escape from the big house and the feds were still hot on their trail.  This season, we will see the addition William Fichtner (Invasion) as an FBI agent brought in to find the jailbirds.

Following Break will be the debut of another drama, VanishedVanished’s premise will revolve around a senator’s wife who is mysteriously MIA.  Those investigating the missing persons case will eventually discover that her disapperance has to do with a centuries-old plot. I wonder how long they can keep that one up??  I predict the show will be gone before we know it.

As for the rest of the FOX lineup—we will see the remainder of the premieres in the weeks to come, with the bulk of the shows airing the first week of September.  Then there’s The O.C.  The Mischa Barton-less show won’t even crack its premiere until November 2nd.  Apparently finding a waif to fit in her shoes takes time.

The OCFox’s rich kid drama “The O.C.” is moving to a new night! The network has only ordered 16 new episodes of the hit show, instead of the usual 22, possibly indicating that the end is near for the show.

Fox has also announced that rather than put “The O.C.” up against hit shows “CSI” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” which will both be airing at 9 PM Thursday in the 2006-2007 season, the show will now air on Friday nights. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m excited about the change—I’ve never seen “The O.C” because of the time slot (I’ve heard it’s possible to watch something else when Jorja Fox is on TV, but honestly, I don’t believe it) and now maybe I’ll get a chance to watch and finally understand what everyone else is talking about!

Adam BrodySo he’s more than just a pretty face: fan favorite Adam Brody—Seth on The O.C.—is developing his own project. The pilot, which would air on NBC, follows the misadventures of a rookie cop who must fight vampire crime in a city infested with bloodsuckers. It certainly sounds intriguing; no doubt fans will anxiously await the result. Though it’s Brody’s first time behind the scenes of a television series, he already has film experience, as co-producer of the remake of the 1980s beloved comedy, Revenge of the Nerds.

Family Friendly TelevisionWhile I’ve never really cared what the Parents Television Council had to say about my TV viewing, I’ve always been fascinated by their opinions.  So when they put out their “Top Ten Best and Worst Shows for Family Viewing,” I listen.  Entertainment Weekly may have their ‘5 Great New Shows to Watch’ issue, but the PTC’s list of worst offenders lets me know what I’m really missing out on! Criticized for their use of bad language, violence, and sex, shows deemed unsuitable this time around included Desperate Housewives, CSI, The O.C., Arrested Development and Family Guy.  (NOTE TO SELF:  Make sure to TiVo a season pass of Arrested Development.)

Surprisingly, shows that were considered family-friendly included Everybody Hates Chris and American Idol.  Apparently when Chris’ mother tells him that she’ll knock him into next week, that’s considered an acceptable form of child punishment.  And when meany Simon Cowell brings contestant to tears—he’s really teaching children how to accept constructive criticism.  So I don’t get it—when Alfre Woodard and her son chain someone up on Desperate Housewives, that’s not considered a good example of mother/son bonding?
